GAVIN MITFORD
ASSOCIATE CHOREOGRAPHER
Theatre includes: associate director for the Shiki Theatre in Japan, where he directed The Sound of Music and, most recently, a workshop/studio production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. He is children’s director and associate choreographer for The Sound of Music UK tour and was the original resident director. He was children’s director and associate choreographer for The Sound of Music in Toronto and associate choreographer for the West End production. Most recently, he was choreographer for A Secret Garden (premiere, Edinburgh). He has directed and choreographed the original physical theatre works Emotor (Sydney Opera House), Soul Effect (NIDA Theatre) and Grace (Wharf Theatre, Sydney Dance Company). Also, associate director/choreographer for the musical The Sleeping Beauty (Sadler’s Wells), associate choreographer for Mitridate (Royal Opera House), assistant choreographer for Carousel (Chichester Festival), La Belle Hélène (ENO) and movement director for The Local Stigmatic (Curtains Up Theatre, Barons Court).
Film and television include: working with choreographer Francessca Jayne in Tim Burton’s feature film Sweeney Todd (Warner Bros) and on Saul Dibb’s feature The Duchess starring Kiera Knightley (Paramount). He also choreographed for the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Gavin directed the short films About Turns (premiered Soho, 16mm festival cafe), First Came Loss and Princess – Less.
