Training: Martin was born and bred in Manchester and trained at the Abraham Moss Centre.
Theatre includes: The Sound of Music, Chess, My Fair Lady, Aspects of Love (UK tours), Cucurucu in The Marat/Sade (AMC Theatre), Issachar/Baker in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK tour), Uncle Pumblechook in Great Expectations (UK tour), Turkey in Honk! (NT tour), Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd (Derby Playhouse), Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls (Sheffield Crucible) and Uncle Henry/The Emerald City Guard in The Wizard of Oz (Birmingham Rep and West Yorkshire Playhouse). Also, The Typesetter in Personals, written by the creators of hit comedy Friends (Apollo), Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar (UK tour and in 1996 Lyceum revival), Amos Hart in Chicago (UK and international tours), Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof (UK tour 2008) and Smee in George Stiles and Anthony Drewe’s Peter Pan (West Yorkshire Playhouse). Martin has performed in concert up and down the country with the British Philharmonic, City Concert Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra.
Film and television include: Prime Suspect, Concrete Chariots, GBH, the Roasted Cygnet in Carmina Burana and Asher in the film of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opposite Donny Osmond.
Recordings include: cast albums of Jesus Christ Superstar, Personals, Dear Father Christmas and Peter Pan and the soundtrack album for the film Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
